June 24. That was my last post. What could I have possibly been doing to keep me away for well over a month?

Well, the truth is She has had some personal adversity. So when things are difficult fur Her, they’re difficult fur me.

We are not the sort to stand at the corner of Wail and Whine ready to check into the deluxe suite at Heartbreak-Complain Hotel. That’s not how we roll.

She went through a hard time.  She didn’t tell three friends. She persevered and the best part– She kept us together!

It’s not over. Is it ever, really? Past, present and residual challenges lie ahead, but you know what I always say:  I am going to be happy and enjoy this day. How do I do that? Not by subscribing to every “feel good” “positive thinking” school of thought that comes along but by doing it the old fashioned way: Setting attainable goals, neither organizing nor partaking in pity pawties, enduring the pain and persevering through– trusting in tomorrow.

There is no guarantee of a happy ending and in most cases, there never really is one.  Destination Happiness is not waiting at the end of the rainbow. Just ask Judy Garland. You just have to trust Time to do its usual fade-the-memories thing.

Happiness is in the accomplishment–  the certain sweet satisfaction you experience working through the difficult, the unpleasant, the pain!  The real last stop on the journey toward happiness is contentment. And even that has vacillating levels. And you have to do the work.  You have to take the time to see it.

Are you content or are you still striving?  Are you content or are you envying a friend, a neighbor, a co-worker (if you’re lucky enough to have one and are not unemployed, like She is)? Are you content or are you looking over the shoulder of your life right now while you’re busy making other plans as John Lennon so famously expressed it?

Are you content?

Happiness is being a Furriend.

Well, don’t look at me, I’m a dog!

Content.  That’s all I ever am.
